Town Mayor
Mold Town Mayor – Councillor Chris Bithell
Chris was born, raised and educated in Mold and has lived in the town all his life. He is a graduate of Bangor University with B.A. Honours degrees in History and Philosophy and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. He taught History and Politics for nearly 30 years in Holywell High School, Deeside High School and Flint High School where he was Deputy Headteacher for 16 years until he retired. He is married to Lynn and has two daughters and three grandchildren.
Chris has been a Labour Councillor for 40 years having served on the former Mold Urban District Council, Delyn Borough Council and Flintshire County Council. He served for 4 years as Chairman of the Libraries and Information Committee and was Executive Member for Education, Children’s Services and Leisure for 9 years on Flintshire County Council. He currently sits on the Lifelong Learning Overview and Scrutiny, the Planning and Constitution Committees and Chairs the Children’s Services Forum. Since 2008 he also has represented Flintshire on the North Wales Police Authority. He has been a member of Mold Town Council for 36 years and has previously served two terms as Town Mayor from 1977-78 and 1985-86.
Other interests include St. Mary’s Parish Church where Chris is a member of the Parochial Church Council and was for 22 years its Secretary. He is a member and former Chairman of the Mold and District Labour Party and served for a number of years on the Welsh Labour Party Executive. He was a former Secretary and Chairman of the local branch of Scope. A founder member and former Treasurer of the Mold and District Civic Society, Chris is also a Trustee, Board Member and former Chairman of the Daniel Owen Community Association. He is also a local historian and wrote and produced a popular video history of the town.
