Mold’s Mayor announces he wants to “Save a Life” through charity fund raising.

Mayor of Mold, Councillor Anthony Parry, has chosen Welsh Hearts (http://welshhearts.org/) as his main charity initiative for his year in office. Welsh Hearts working alongside the Town Council, St John Ambulance and the community of Mold will endeavour to “Save a Life” in the town, by placing at least 25 defibrillators at key locations and raise the awareness of as many community volunteers as possible to use the equipment, together with CPR and other key life saving techniques.

Welsh Hearts is the leading heart charity in Wales for placing defibrillators in communities and are regarded as the heart charity at the centre of saving lives in many Welsh communities. Cardiovascular disease accounts for a third of all deaths in Wales where 30,000 people have recently been diagnosed with heart issues, leading to the very sad statistic of Wales having the highest prevalence of heart failure in the UK.

Councillor Parry said; “I’m very focused that we will raise £25,000 to place at least 25 defibrillators in the Mold area and provide as much awareness training as possible to save the lives of people in our town.” He went on to add; “I’m very pleased at the initial reaction that I’ve received from members of the public and especially local businesses a number of whom have already pledged to contribute towards the £1000 target for each defibrillator.”

Charity Director for Welsh Hearts, Sharon Owen said; “We are very pleased to be working with the Mayor of Mold to bring defibrillators into the town. Every one placed into communities is potentially a life saved, as without immediate access to a defibrillator, the chance of a surviving a cardiac arrest is massively reduced.”

St John Ambulance provides ongoing support to the community and attends most of the events the town holds throughout the year and will be working alongside the Town Council on the initiative. Councillor Parry hopes that dependent upon the success of his fund raising efforts, the Town Council will also be able to make a donation to the funds of Mold Branch as currently they are need of financial help to support their community efforts. Will Wynne, Divisional Officer for Mold Division of St John said; “St John are very pleased to support the Mayor of Mold and the town with the Save a Life campaign. We provide advice, training and direct support through our cadet scheme and attending community events in Mold.”

Welsh Hearts have very kindly donated to Mold Town Council their first defibrillator for the campaign and the first “Save a Life” awareness sessions are being arranged from 12 till 2pm and 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 21^st June. The sessions are free to attend and will cover use of the equipment, CPR, choking, strokes, major bleeding and dealing with shock.
